Samsung will offer Galaxy AI artificial intelligence capabilities to Galaxy S24 models for free for a period of time. However, after a certain period of time, a subscription will be required to access all features. The price users will pay for AI features has been revealed.
Samsung sets Galaxy AI price at $16 in China
Samsung is switching to a subscription system for Galaxy S24 users in China. Starting July 30, the subscription will enable the use of some AI functions.
According to notifications from Samsung stores in China, users will get 180 days of free access when they first set up their new Galaxy S24. Then they will have to pay $16 per year for AI services such as translation, voice typing and augmented camera modes.
However, some AI functions on Galaxy phones, such as Bixby voice commands and Live Translate, will continue to be free to use. The partnership between Samsung and Chinese tech giant Tencent makes it possible for both companies to monetize AI features.
Whether Samsung will charge subscription fees for other AI features remains to be seen. Still, neither Samsung nor Tencent provided details about the new subscription policy. It should also be noted that this pricing is exclusive to China.
Previously, Samsung Mobile Chief T.M. Roh gave important information about Galaxy AI. He said that the artificial intelligence assistant will be available completely free of charge until 2025.
